چکیده
The recent observation by CDF of Σ±b (uud and ddb) baryons within 2 MeV of the predicted Σb−Λb splitting has provided strong confirmation for the theoretical approach based on modeling the color hyperfine interaction. We now apply this approach to predict the masses of the Ξb family of baryons with quark content usb and dsb – the ground state Ξb at 5790 to 5800 MeV, and the excited states Ξ′b and Ξ ∗ b . The main source of uncertainty is the method used to estimate the mass difference mb −mc from known hadrons. We verify that corrections due to the details of the interquark potential and to Ξb–Ξ ′ b mixing are small.

Weak radiative decays of beauty baryons into strange baryons, induced by the elec-troweak penguin, are estimated by using a quark model approach. Relations between formfactors in the semileptonic and in the weak radiative decays are derived within the heavy quark effective theory. The partial decay widths are found to be of the order of 10 −15 MeV for Λ b → Λγ and Ξ b → Ξγ and of the oder of 10...

We present results for masses of spin-1/2 and spin-3/2 double-charm baryons in quenched lattice QCD, from an exploratory study using a non-perturbatively improved clover action at β = 6.2. We have studied local operators and we observe, after appropriate projections, a good signal for the ground states. We also present results for single-charmed baryons and spin-splittings for both double-and s...

We consider QCD at nonzero temperature and quark density in the limit of a large number of colors, Nc. We suggest that several distinct phases can arise. Two are familiar: a cold phase of confined hadrons, with a pressure ∼ N c , and hot phase of deconfined gluons, with pressure ∼ N c . For cold, dense quarks, in a narrow (∼ 1/N c ) window for the quark chemical potential, μ, there is first a d...

In the limit of a large number of colors, Nc, we suggest that gauge theories can exhibit several distinct phases at nonzero temperature and quark density. Two are familiar: a cold, dilute phase of confined hadrons, where the pressure is ∼ 1, and a hot phase of deconfined quarks and gluons, with pressure ∼ N c . When the quark chemical potential μ ∼ 1, the deconfining transition temperature, Td,...
